Not sure which John you are looking for, but my ancestor Rev John Cleveland cam to SC with his brother Col Benjamin Cleveland c1785 and were among the first settlers in SC. They were b Blue Run Va. Benj became fighter in RW and John was Chaplain. They both died along the Tugaloo R Benj in SC and John in GA. Since Col Benj and John's father was John you could assume Benj had a son named John and that is who you are after. Col. Benj wound up living with one of his children. Only one of my John's children was b in VA, the rest in SC or GA. Lots of sites on Col. Benj.
