Eli was my gggrandad. born 1827 died 1871 married 1843 to Emeline Pennington. Eli died 3 or 4 year's after the Civil War. He served as a Major in the 2nd Tenn Infantry. I have a photograph of a reunion of soldiers named and numbered in his hand writing where he wrote on the back
" I was also the bugler and I sure could make her humm"
He was the son of Elder Eli b.1781 d.1859 m.1803 to Polly Ragon. (I have a copy of the text of his obit. and family history and other documentation I get this info from).

Who was son of Robert (oldest of 15 or 16) m. Aley Mathis 1736. Robt was born on Bull Run Creek, Orange County, VA
Robts brother Benjamin was Col. Benjamin " hero of King's Mtn and Battle of Guilford Courthouse 1775"
Cleveland county NC was named after him.

The father of Benjamin and Robt, latter part of their lives citzens of Wilkes Count, NC, settled probably early 1700 in Orange County, VA.
All the previous were descended from Moses Cleveland who came to the colonies (Mass) in 1635.
Hope this helps.
Phil
