Capt. Robert Cleveland Plantation & 1779 Log House
Posted by: HENRY EDWARDS (ID *****9492) Date: October 02, 2007 at 21:13:00

We recently visited the Cleveland Family Cemetery.
This Cemetery is located near Wilkesboro, in Wilkes County, N.C.
For directions, leave Wilkesboro on hi-way 421 N, exit 421 to
hi-way 16 (turn right) go to Millers Creek, turn left on Boone Trl., go thru. Purlear then turn right on Parsonsville Rd., go about two miles, the Cemetery is on the right of the road, with a white wrought iron fence around it. We found Capt. Robert Cleveland and his wife Aley Mathis's grave markers, also a few
Yates markers, who were family members.
The old Capt. Robert Cleveland house place was located a few yards south of the Cemetery. Today there is an old cedar tree which stands in the yard.
In 1779, when this log house was built, this plantation consisted of 640 acres.
In 1987 the log house was purchased by OLD WILKES INC. for
$1,000.00, it was taken apart piece by piece and taken to Wilkesboro and reassembled. Today it is on exhibit.
This was an enjoyable trip, since Capt. Robert Cleveland was my wife's 4th great grandfather.
