Clevelands in Grove Level Baptist Church, GA (1802-1830)

Church minutes can be quite interesting and informative regarding the
activities and personalities of our ancestors. The following
information was obtained from a transcription of the church minutes.
Dates were calculated by 10,000-year calendar software at:

http://www.samuell.com:8000/cgi-bin/calanno.pl

Grove Level Baptist Church in Franklin county, Georgia was constituted
on 1802.5.15. My ancestors Wyatt Cleveland and Temperance Freeman
were charter members.

On 1802.7.18, Temperance filed a grievance against brother Sanders'
family who had accused her of being drunk which she denied.

On 1802.8.28, the church met. They censured Temperance Cleveland "for
not believing her sisters and believing the word" and also her husband
Wyatt "for a hard spirit and for speaking evil of the church."

Wyatt Cleveland was apparently unrepentant as the church met on
1802.10.16 and excluded him from fellowship.

We find nothing more in the minutes relating to Temperance or Wyatt
until 1807 when on 1807.7.18, the church met and excluded Temperance
from fellowship for not hearing the word (apparently she had ignored
a summons to appear on some matter).

Joseph Cleveland, son of Wyatt and Temperance Cleveland, married
Martha "Patsy" Meeks in May of 1809. She was the daughter of
Rev. Littleton Meeks and Elizabeth Ivey. The following October on
1809.10.14, Patsy and her mother Elizabeth Meeks were received by
letter and joined the Grove Level Baptist Church.

The next reference to Clevelands was on 1819.8.14 when the church met
and dismissed by letter Patsey Cleveland. She apparently had been a
member of the church about ten years. Presumably this was about the
time that she and her husband Joseph moved to Alabama.

Through the year 1830, I could find nothing further for Clevelands
recorded in the transcription of the church minutes located at:
