GGG-Grandfather, Charles (Clendenin) Drew b. 1812/13, Orange Co., NC, was brought to Kentucky by his mother, Elizabeth nee Lloyd? (Loyd not proven) who knew 1 a Clendenin and knew 2 a John Drew. Including myself 4 descendants of Charles Clendennin/Drew were told that our Charles Drew had taken his step-father John Drew's surname. Members of my early Kentucky Drews lived in the KY counties of Laurel, Jackson & Clay. 2GG-grandfather Charles moved with his family to Rockcastle County after 1850 Clay Co., KY census. I've been searching for my GGG Grandfather Charles (Clendenin/Glendenning) Drew for years. I have suspected that his mother Elizabeth was either part or full native Indian (maybe melungeon?). It's been said by family who knew G-grandfather Stephen Andrew Drew (1860-1945), s/o Charles & Elizabeth Reed/Reid Drew that his skin was dark. (GG-grandmother Elizabeth Reed Drew’s parents Stephen & Winnie Hollingsworth are listed in the 1850 Clay Co., KY as mulatto). My DNA (67 markers) matches the Clendenin's DNA. Any information on the Clendenins & Drews would be deeply appreciated. Thanks. Jim Notify Administrator about this message?
