Clendenen Family Genealogy Forum

Although I'm a Drew, my family has known for nearly 200 years that we're really of Clendenin origins. My 3g grandfather was Charles Clendenin-Drew (b: c.1812 in Creek Patch, NC). His mother's name was Elizabeth Lloyd. We don't think Elizabeth was married to this Mr. Clendenin though. She married John Drew Sr. later, and Charles took on the last name of Drew around the age of 8 or 9.
The big question our family is trying to find the answer to is: What was Charles's real father's first name? We strongly suspect it may be Charles Clendenin Jr., brother of Col. George Clendenin and son of Charles Clendenin Sr. of whom Charleston, WV was named for. The problem is trying to find records or facts to solidly back up our theory. Can anyone help me solve a long running family mystery? I'd really appreciate any leads anyone could give me. Thanks!!
