Hi Debbie: It was nice to hear back from you. The name Clendenen comes from, or rather a derivative, Scotland. The earliest I know about is 1355. We were not in the clans but rather Highlanders, property owners. After backing the wrong political horse we were exiled from Scotland, stripped of property and excommunicated from the Catholic church. The family fled to Ireland and most of the history from that point forward stems from Ireland. Three brothers came to American in the early 1700's and one, George Clendenen settled with various relatives in the Kanawha Valley in now West Virgina. The "Clendenin" settlement later became Charlestown WVA, named in honor of his father, Charles about 1756. I have been attempting to locate the WVA and Charleston historical society sites to learn more about the family and make the direct connections with my side of the family. The names you list are not familar to me. Good luck in your search. I have been enjoying learning more about this very large and diverse family of ours. Notify Administrator about this message?
