DNA Project for Clements, Clemmons, etc. now available
DNA is the most accurate means of determining ancestral lines. It can pinpoint the male descendants of one common ancestor of a given Surname for more than 300 years. There is now a DNA project for the descendants of the surname Clements, Clemmons, Clemons and variations of spelling. Any male of that surname can participate and determine if he is descended from one of the various early Clements immigrants to America by comparing the matches with known descendants of the various lines. We will be able to determine if the Francis line matches the Surry Co. John line, and if the Amelia Co. line, etc., matches either of them by the 12 marker test. If more differentiation is needed, a 2nd test of 25 markers can be performed to carry the matches back another dozen or more generations. This same type of project has been underway in the Walker family with great success. The more who participate, the greater the database to match the various lines and to assist in connecting unknowns to other descendants of the same immigrant. DNA is the greatest genealogical tool available to modern researchers. Please consider joining the project. Your privacy is protected.
You are eligible to participate in the Clements/Clemons DNA project and discover what other Clements/Clemons lines you match and who your immigrant ancestor might be. Records are missing and unreliable at best, census takers made mistakes and skipped whole families, but DNA never lies. It is accurate back 350 years or more. The test is done on the Y chromosome, which is passed on from father to son generation after generation, like a DNA fingerprint. I want to encourage you to participate in the most reliable tool of modern genealogy.
