Hi Don and Brenda, Thank you for your reply regarding William. He has always puzzled me, and after reading your reply, I found him even more puzzling. Here is some additional information on William. The Bibb County estate notes were taken by me from microfilms of the original records. 1830 Bibb Co., AL census: Wm T Clement 1 male under 5 1 male 10-15 1 male 40-50 (William - born 1780-1790) 1 female under 5 1 female 5-10 1 female 10-15 2 females 15-20 1 female 40-50 (Elizabeth - born 1780-1790) [Note: At the top of this census page, the name Lultan (sic)Clement is marked out. Lulton Clementt (sic) appears on another page of the Bibb Co. census and is the only person in the household. This appears to be Luellen Clement. Also on that page is John Hunt.] Some of the following will probably be redundant for you, but I'm including it to show sort of a timeline. Bibb Co. Estates 1821-1855 4 Feb. 1822. John Hunt, Wm Clement, and Thos Clement appointed executors of the LW&T of Zephaniah Clement. The three entered into bond with James Terry and Suiltin [Luellen] Clement of $12,000. 25 Feb. 1822. John Hunt, William Clement, Thomas Clement, James Terry, and Luillan Clement enter into bond to administer the will of Zepheniah Clement. Signed: Wm Clement (seal) T.J. Clement (seal) J. Hunt (seal) James Terry (seal) Luellen Clement (seal) 6 Mar. 1826. John Hunt, William Clement, and Thomas Clement ordered to present their accounts for allowances and final settlement on estate of Zepheniah Clement. 1 May 1826. John Hunt, William Clement, and Thomas Clement find it impossible to divide the negroes "in kind" to make the legacy equal to the greatest. [Note: This was rather long.] Additional proceeds from the estate were paid over [less any advancements] in the following manner: Stephen Clement - $1 William Clement - $6.56 Thomas Clement - " Luelen Clement - " Alfred Clement - " Isabel Clement - " Polly Wash - " Susanah Terry - " Leana Clement - " Nancy Hunt - " Parasada Clement - " Anamaria Jones - " 29 Mar. 1822. Inventory of the estate of Zepheniah Clement. Follows is an inventory of the sale. Buyers included the following persons: Luellen Clement Wm T. Clement John Hunt John Cole Thomas Clement Mason G. Cole James Terry John Jones [Note: William's middle initial is given as "T" which matches the name of the William T. Clements in the 1830 Bibb Co. census.] There are more notes on Zepheniah's estate, but nothing more that will shed light on William. Bibb County Estates, Volume G: 30 Sept. 1851. Nancy Hunt, William Clements, Thompson Hunt, and John Hunt enter into bond of $15,000. Nancy Hunt, administratrix of the estate of John Hunt, decd., is keeping the property together under laws of the state and by the petition of George W. Howard and Jacob Maybry her securities to her former bond, court has ordered her to enter into a new bond. Signed: Nancy Hunt William Clements T. Hunt John Hunt Bibb County Administrators Book H: 24 Dec. 1855. Felix Thompson, Geo. W. Howard, and David L. Brown entered into bond of $8,500. Felix Thompson appointed administrator of the estate of Leana Williams, decd. of Bibb Co. 2 Jan. 1858. Felix Shropshire, administrator, of Leannah Williams made return for final settlement. [Note: He was Felix Thompson in 1855. I'm unsure which is incorrect in the books.] The return included advances to Wm Clemens and Jas Terry. A list of "heirs at law" follows: 1. Nancy Hunt, res. of Bibb Co. 2. Wm Clements, res. of Bibb Co. 3. Luellen Clements, res. of Perry Co. 4. Mary Walsh, wife of Thos. J. Walsh a res. of Miss. 5. Parasade Cole, wife of John Cole, res. of Perry Co., Ala. 6. Susannah Terry, decd, who departed this life since Leannah Williams, and whose estate James Terry of Greene Co., Ala is adminstrator of. All said heirs are brothers and sisters of Leannah Williams. 7. The children of Thos. Clements, decd., brother of Leannah: A. John Clements B. Joseph Clements C. Nancy Clements - all of lawful age [the first three children] D. Eliza Clements E. Richard Clements F. Martha Clements G. Luellen Clements H. Melissa Clements - minors and all residents of Miss. [the last five children] 8. Children of Alfred Clements, decd., brother of Leannah: A. John W. - of age B. Elizabeth C. George H. D. Lealah E. Alfred - all minors and residents of Greene Co., Ala. Sworn to by Felix Shropshire, admin. 2 Jan. 1858. [Note: I did not find any receipts in which the heirs signed for their distributions. However, I have not been through all the records.] Finally, in the 1860 Bibb Co. census is one William Clements, 78, male, born Alabama [which is highly unlikely] living in the home of John Hunt Logan and wife Lavinia Moseley Logan. I had assumed he was the brother of Leannah since he is stated to be a resident of Bibb Co. in her estate papers in 1858. However, after reading your data, I'm not so sure. John Hunt Logan was related to John Hunt, spouse of Nancy Clement. A Logan researcher said JH Logan was the nephew of John Hunt. On a related note, I've also been a bit puzzled about Stephen Clement, son of Zepheniah. I've read that he and his wife Leanna died in Copiah Co., MS. However, the first record of his estate appears in Bibb Co. in 1833. Leanna is the administrator. Also, another Leana/Leah Clements died in Bibb around 1851, and one of her daughters married Samuel Curtis Terry, son of Susannah Clement and James Terry. Any ideas about the identity of this widow Leah Clements? I hope this helpful and that we may be able to put all of these pieces together. Sincerely, Catherine Notify Administrator about this message?
