I obtained a copy of the will of Nancy Bumpass, 1892
NC Archives, Person Co, NC Will 1868 to 1924, Vol 19, pages 330-331.
This is not Nancy Clement Bumpass.
The last will of Nancy A. Bumpass
I give devise and bequesth all the property of every kind and discription of which I may die possessed or to which I may be in any way entitled at the time of my death to the orphan boy whom I took from the Orphan Asylm in Oxford and whom I call John Bumpass.
I appoint William Malone the executor of this will.
Given under my hand & seal this 18th day of August 1884

I found this Nancy Bumpass in the 1880 census, Person County, NC HH #204
Bumpass, Nancy W F. 50

_______, John W. M. 7 adopted
Cozart, Harrison B M. 10 servant

My guess that she died shortly after she wrote her will but it was not probated until John came of age.
