Benjamin Clements of Gloucester Co VA had sons Richard, Benjamin Jr, George and Thomas, between 1682 and 1702. Benjamin and Grissell Coleman Clements are in the Abingdon Parish Register of Gloucester Co VA baptising these sons during this time. Their first child Anne was born prior to the earliest date of the Parish records, c 1678, setting Benjamin's birth at about 1655. Cpt Francis Clements was born in England in 1660 and emigrated to VA in 1682 as an apprentice; documented. He settled in Isle of Wight Co where he left his will and so did his sons through 1778. He was not the son of Benjamin, and his son Benjamin did not migrate to Gloucester Co VA. William Clement of Amelia Co VA was b c 1680 and was not related to either Benjamin of Gloucester Co or to Francis of Isle of Wight Co. He was the son of John of KIng William and Hanover Co VA. This is all proven in the VA records, and subastantiated by DNA testing of the descendants of these 4 early VA Clements men. And none of them is descended from Jeremiah who had no male heirs. The problem with false lineages between these 5 began with the first edition of Adventurers of Purse and Person, and was copied by Jeannette Holland Stucki in the book "Clements". The error has been corrected in the last edition of Adventurers.
