I have a James Clement of Flushng, N.Y. who came from England about 1670, as an indentured servant of John Bowne. He was an active member of the Quaker community at Flushing from 1676. James could not have been blessed with much of this worlds goods at his first comming, for in the valuation of estates in Flushing in 1675, where he then lived, he is rated with four acres of land, three cows, two young cattle, and two pigs. It is believed that his first wife was nmed Jane. He married his second wife, Abagail, widow ot Thomas Farrington and daughter of John Palmer, in 1700. In 1702 he was one of the grand jury of Queen's county that was directed to find bills of indictmen against Samuel Bownes, an eminant Quaker preacher. This the grand jury refused to do. The refusal led to much bitter controversy between the judge and this body. Did Gregory die in England? Lane Bliss Notify Administrator about this message?
