Joseph CLEMENS married Catharina GERARDI (born in Rheinbach, Germany)in St.Louis, Mo. in 1848. He was the son of Jost Heinrich CLEMENS and Elisabeth SCHWEITZER, all from Germany. It's believed that Joseph fought in the Mexican War and received a land grant in West Point, Iowa, where that branch of the CLEMENS has been ever since. There were other CLEMENS in St.Louis.
