My grandfather Frank Clemans, Macy, Indiana, Fulton County, married Bessie Lenore Rowe of Athens Indiana, Fulton County. I've always been told that a disgreement way back when occurred between two family members and the schism ended with the two spellings of the name. This area of the state is east of Rochester and north of Peru in the northen part of the state. Where is Walnut Grove? When hearing family tales the general areas of Chili ( locally pronounced with long i), Denver, and Deedsville. My mother Marion Clemans always speaks in generalities when describing the area so I'm not sure of ther actual location.
Given the stubborness of the family, I'm likely to agree with this colorful story. There are no more male heirs, legitimate, from this side of the family..........but several hard headed ladies remain.
