Mark Twain's mother was named Jane Lampton. She married his father, John Marshall Clemens, in Kentucky in 1823. The very best source on the Clemens ancestry of Mark Twain is Raymond Martin Bell's book, The Ancestry of Samuel Clemens, Grandfather of Mark Twain. I got my copy from Mr. Bell directly in 1987 when his address was 413 Burton Ave., Washington, Pennsylvania. Mr. Bell traces the Clemens ancestry all the way back to England.
