I, too, am related to a Joseph C. Clemens of Missouri. I am not sure if it is the same Joseph. I will give you his vitals and you can let me know. Most of my information is from his latter life. Apparently he was married once and then married my great-grand- mother, so my information on him is sketchy. My Joseph C. Clemens was born in Kentucky in 1826. He volunterred to serve in the Mexican American War in Jonesboro, TN on 2-2-1848. He was a private in Capt. W.H. Patterson's Company K, 5th Reg. of the TN Volunteers. While in Vera Cruz, Mexico, he "became afflicted with the diarrhea" and was sickly the rest of his life. He apparently married a Louisa (marriage length, children, etc. all unknown), but she married another man while he was serving in Co. I, 10th Reg. of the Indiana Cavalry during the Civil War. When he returned and found her married, he was granted a divorce and he married my great grandmother, Eliza Francis. They were married 11-29-1885 and had four children. He died 8-16-1895 in Sentinel, Missouri. He is buried at Hopewell Church cemetery outside Bolivar, Missouri. I doubt if we are talking about the same man, however, I was curious since you said he served in the Mexican-American War. How many Joseph Clemens served in this war???
