David, were your Clemens from Montgomery/Wythe Co VA in the late 1700s? There were some there at that time who had German connections. It was through the wife who was German and possibly Lutheran. Most times it is the wife who directs the choice of church and it is more likely that the German/Mennonite influence came from a female who married into your Clemens line than from the Clemens line itself. My hope for finding a male Clemens related to Samuel Clemens/Mark Twain (to do the DNA test) is to track a male line descended from a brother or uncle of Samuel Clemens. Does anyone have any idea of Samuel Clemens' immediate family (father, mother, siblings etc) from the census records 1850-1880?
