William Cleghorn/Lettice Poage?

I'm having some trouble connecting Lettice Cleghorn as the daughter of John and Mary Crawford Poage. Lettice was born c. 1730. John Poage was born 1726. I don't believe anyone in history has fathered a child at the age of four.

It seems more likely, if Lettice is a Poage, that she would be the daughter of Robert Poage and Elizabeth Preston. She is of the same generation as their children. If John were her brother and not her father, he might leave her a legacy in his will, although it does seem strange that he did not say "to my sister Lettice Cleghorn." On the other hand, he did not say, "to my daughter, Lettice Cleghorn."

The outstanding question is this. How many other Poage's were in Va. at the time? Could she be a daughter of a near relative of John Poage's or perhaps, orphaned without any dowry? Could John have felt compassion for her and included her in his will? Or could she have been the daughter of a neighbor or friend?

No, if the dates of birth for Lettice and John Poage are correct than Lettice is not the daughter of John and Mary Crawford Poage. Any ideas?
