Cleggs of Liverpool,
Posted by: Jeremy St. John (ID *****0758) Date: October 31, 2008 at 06:48:16

My maternal family came from West Derby, Liverpool. They seem to have lived there, or there abouts, for many years. I have the information listed below.
As you can see I have very few dates, no siblings and no tree on the female side of the family?
Can anyone fill in any details on my family.

Joseph Clegg = Ester Williamson
of Newton, Manchester
Joseph Clegg = Elizabeth Mainwaring
Mayor of Liverpool of Bromburgh Hall
James Mainwaring Clegg = Anne Meior of Hindley
James Clegg = Anne Arden
James Clegg = Mary Brown of Wigan
Thomas Clegg = Anne Thornley
born 1828 died Toxteth in 1888 1829-1893
Dr. Walter Thomas Clegg = Jeannie Nicholl Watson
born 8.12.1859 died 1919 of Dundee. 1873-1950s
in Toxteth

We are also supposed to go back to ownership of Clegg Hall, wickedly stolen by the Roundheads. Trouble is it seems to have been built and owned at the time by another family all together. Equally an ancestor is supposed to have run away to sea and drowned, lashed to the ship's wheel. Is this all romantic tosh or is there some way to check it out?

All help would be appreciated!!!
Jeremy
