Is this the same letter as posted on Carl Clegg's website at www.cclegg.com/family/history? It is true that Henry Clegg, Sr. wrote his two sons Jonathon and Henry Jr letters, but I am not sure about James. There are so many Clegg's coming out of the Preston/Lancashire area about that time; both on the Mormon trail and otherwise.
You can track down these lines, including the Wamsley connection quite accurately on familysearch.org, I believe.
