Anyone researching a John Clegg with known children: Betty/Elizabeth (Mrs Pershouse); John, James, Mary (Mrs Charles Snow), and Ashworth Clegg (not in order of birth) born between mid to late 1730's and late 1740's or early 1750's.

James' children include Samuel Clegg, Sarah (Mrs Andrew Maiben) and Ann Clegg. Elizabeth's children are John and James Pershouse. Mary Snow's children include mary Ann (Mrs Henry Greame) and Isabella (Mrs John Hodgkinson). Ashworth Clegg married 1815 when about 67 years old to Elizabeth Derbyshire and he died in 1818.

Family were merchants and particularly woolen merchants from at least 1790's. It is believed the father John Clegg was born around 1717, the son of a James Clegg. Ashworth Clegg's will proved on 4 Dec 1818 states his brothers and sisters had pre-deceased him and named the above living nephews and nieces.

Anyone with a connection to this family? I am a descendant of James Pershouse, son of Betty/Elizabeth Clegg who died 1778.
