Hi,
My great grandmother is Isabell Clegg [b. 13 March 1901 in Parkersburg, WVA…d. 27 May 1969 in SLC, UT] m. Rollo Fred Russell [b. 4 March 1900 in Saline, MI…d. 18 January 1980 in SLC, UT] on 7 Oct. 1920 in SLC, UT.
My great great grandfather is James Clegg [b. 19 August 1861 in Bradford, England…d. 6 April 1935 in SLC UT] m. Margaret Salina Jackson [b. 19 May 1872 in Parkersburg, WVA…d. 9 May 1949 in SLC UT] on 24 Nov. 1898 in Parkersburg, WVA (my mother has the original marriage certificate of this union).
I am trying to find James’ parents. These are the clues I have. His cousin lived in SLC and his name was Rue {Lawton?} Clegg. James’ parents were James and Mary and they lived in England. He had a sister named Elizabeth. When my great great grandfather was working in the oil fields in Canada one of Elizabeth’s sons approached him to come home and settle the family estates. My grandfather refused to do so since he had been ousted for being a gambler. My grandmother said that my great great grandfather never mentioned his family in England. He tried to tell them who his sister was and how to notify her after he had his first stroke but was unable to do so since he could no longer speak or write.
In going through the records in family search, it reasons out that he could be the son of James Clegg [b. 28 May 1837 in Preston, Lancashire, England…d. 9 Feb. 1875] and Mary Ann [b. abt 1840 in Preston, Lancashire, England] who is the son of Jonathon Clegg and Ellen Walmsley. I have no proof of this relationship other than the clues I listed above.
I am very interested in any information which may assist me in getting over this stumble block I am at.
