Hi Dave,
I believe that this John Cleek is my ancestor. I have the 1796 thru 1798 Personal Property Tax List that shows a John Cleek owning property in Lee Co, Va.

I don't know that I can help answer your question right now, but I sure have been looking for a long time for more info re: John Cleek & his property there in Lee County.
Oral history states that John Cleek served in the Rev War, but that info is sketchy too. I was wondering if this land could have been a land grant for service in the War.

Another problem that I have found is that the county boundary lines changed often in that area in the late 1700's. I have not been able to determine when & where the original property deed would be recorded.

I would be glad to share whatever proof can be located.
