Mr. Joseph Cleary

Mr. Joseph Kenneth "Ken" Cleary, 79, formerly of Baltimore, died Tuesday, June 20, at his daughter's residence in Walkersville, Md., surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Shirley Ritterpusch Cleary, who died in 1988.
Born June 13, 1927, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Joseph W. and Mary Katherine O'Connell Cleary.

Mr. Cleary was a graduate of Calvert Hall College and attended Johns Hopkins University. He served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II. He was the comptroller of Franklin Square Hospital from 1954 to 1969 and ended his career when he retired as senior accounting officer of Mercantile Bank in 1990. The job he loved most was director of fiscal affairs for St. Joseph's College in Emmitsburg from 1969 until they closed in 1973. He treasured his Irish heritage and the annual tradition of celebrating St. Patrick's Day with his family. His wit and charm filled a room and no party was complete until he arrived.

Surviving are his children, Laurie Jansen and husband Tim of Walkersville, Tom Cleary of Brownsville, Md., Dan Cleary of Baltimore and Ann Joyner and husband Skip of Forest Hill, Md.; two granddaughters, Tara Miller and husband Vern of Woodsboro and Erin Cleary of Frederick; one great-grandson, Colton Miller; and one sister, Joan Bryars and husband Jim of Roseville, Calif. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Cleary is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 North Market Street,. Frederick, where friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. June 22. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 22. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Thomas Staup, Harriet Chapel, Episcopal Parish, Catoctin Furnace, officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Utica.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Hall Alumni, c/o Calvert Hall College, 8102 LaSalle Road, Baltimore, MD 21286.
