Claytor Family Genealogy Forum

Walter, I'm sorry I'm a little confused I've traced the Claytor name back to early 1600's to Thomas and William Claytor from Northlumberland County England. The Clayton name has not come up in my findings as a direct link other than when the military changed my uncle's name when he joined the Air Force in the early 50's. My great great great grandfather was George Washington's fathers teacher. What makes you think Claytor derived from Clayton? Why not the other way around? Just curious..
