Ditto to everything that you said. The tree which I'm working on now comes through Aaron Claypool, son of 1783 John & Nancy. I'm interested in anyone's sources for this mess of a Claypool tree that's branching out over the web. Any source for the names of the two wives? Birth date and place for John Claypool? Delaware or Virginia?
While we're at it, I may as well ask about this 1781 insurrection story that's so often linked to this John Claypool. After much searching, I finally found (on google books) the story written in the 19th century that's been clipboarded so many times. The man very specifically mentions--TWICE--that the John Claypool in charge of the insurrection was a Scotsman by birth. Very insulting, if "Insurrection John" really is the son of James from Delaware. So, were there two John Claypools in Hampshire County?
Aaron's headstone (personally viewed and transcribed) very clearly gives him a birth date of January 28, 1783. Can anyone tell me where the other one came from, please? Perhaps there's a family Bible floating around that I haven't seen referenced? Wouldn't that be nice?!
There is a "will" transcription clipboarded around the net that says "admitted to probate 19 June 1847" but has his widow signing the same on 14 March 1848. (Note, also, that this same transcription lists his death as "on or about the first day of May last". His tombstone gives his death date as 6-8-1847.) If someone has a literal transcription of his will, I'd love to see it. Thanks so much!
Thanks to everyone who's done all this research. It just needs a little untangling, that's all.
Janis
