Hi Debra, The James Claypool, Jr. referred to in this record is most likely the son of James Claypool b. 1701 and Jane. James Jr. was born in 1730 and married Margaret Dunbar in 1750. This is according to Evelyn Bracken's work continued by Sam Claypool. It's not disputed that Norton had both a son James (b. about 1677) and a nephew James (b. 1664). The question as you said is regarding which of these James was the father of James (b. 1701). I have been trying to figure out if there is any family correlation based on the spelling of "Claypole" vs. "Claypoole". In some ways this seems to suggest the Norton lineage, but I haven't looked at enough records to know. It could just be a name that had alternate spellings.
