As you know there is controversy over James Claypoole born 14 Feb 1701 Lewes, Sussex Co., Delaware. Some say that James is probably the grandson of Norton not James Claypool m. Helena Mercer.
I have found information saying that Norton had a son and a nephew names James Claypool, also I found this in "Chalkley's Chronicals" vol. 3.
AUGUSTA COUNTY, VIRGINIA - CHALKLEY'S CHRONICLES; Vol 3, PP 370 - 379
Page 297.--3d May, 1761. James Claypool, Jr., and Margaret ( ), of
Hampshire County, to James Thomas, £40, patented to said James Claypool,
15th December, 1757, at head of Cedar Branch, 240 acres. Delivered:
James Claypole, 1st August, 1764.
This James Jr. of Hampshire Co. VA is married to Margaret, he can't be the James Claypool m. Jane of Hampshire and Hardy Counties, can any of you help me sort out the grandsons of John and Marie Angell Claypoole?
For Norton's line we have;
Norton Claypoole m. Rachel and their son
James Claypool b. 08 Dec 1673 St Mary AbChurch, London, England m. Rachel Prawling,
James Claypool Jr. m. Margaret/Jean ? possibly died 02 Jun 1768.
and then we have Norton's borther James Claypoole;
James Claypoole m. Helena Mercer and their son
James Claypool m. Mary Cann and thier son
James Claypool m. Jane (Bird) ?
Can anyone support or disprove this information?
