William CLAY (aka William Mitchell Clay) b. ca 1709 Henrico Co., VA; d. after 1773 (last deed recorded in Pittsylvania Co., VA). Tradidion says he was killed 1774 at 'The Battle of Point Pleasant' (Gov. Dunsmore's last fight against the Indians); md. (1) ca 1732, probably Henrico Co. to Martha _____ (as shown on deeds), who evidently died ca 1765, probably Cumberland Co., VA; md. (2) ca 1768 probably Cumberland Co., Agnes _____ (as shown on deeds) who 'deserted him' , according to researchers on this line); no wife appears on Deeds from 1771 'on'. Six children, all by Martha. She was not Martha GREEN. Martha GREEN married Charles Clay, brother of William Mitchell Clay.
