The John Clay (1754-1835) that married Malison/Melison Eppes is the son of Henry Clay (1711-1764)and Lucy Green. He (John) was a Private (not a Captain, that I know of) in the RW. He was at the Battle of Monmouth and Siege of Yorktown, perhaps Valley Forge. Did tours in parts of five years of the RW. The two sons that I know of are Joshua and Jordan. Some trees also credit him with a son Henry, but I've seen no evidence for him. Also--some mistake this John Clay for the father of Henry Clay, Statesman--wrong John Clay. Nor is he John Clay son of Wm Clay and Ann Old.

Most of the above and more are now on Ancestry in the Sons of the American Revolution membership applications. Read them all because each application is from a different descendant and represents a different line, though all but one come through son Joshua and the other through son Jordan, if memory serves me well.--Dave
