I am not related to Moses Clay. I am doing research on Confederate soldiers buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland to help the cemetery update their records.

The cemetery records indicate they have a Moses Clay who was a Sergeant in Company E, 12th Georgia Infantry. He supposedly died on July 10, 1864.

While looking at his compiled military service records, they indicate that Moses Clay was a prisoner of war captured at Spottsylvania Court House on May 10, 1864 and was eventually sent to the Elmira Prison, Elmira, New York. The records also indicate that this same man remained in prison and was released after taking the oath of allegience and was released on June 16, 1865.

It is apparent to me that either the records are totally wrong, or someone back than made a huge mistake on the cemetery records. It is of course impossible for someone to die in Maryland in 1864 and be in prison in New York in 1865.

Any information you may have will be appreciated.
