thanks for your efforts, i have all this. however, i can't find any record of p.r. or george being in service , since they obviously died during the war. i also haven't been able to locate the graves in izard co.
plotinus was a greek philosopher, so george must have been somewhat educated to name his son after him. born in south carolina, i can find no clay threads to tie him to.
while most clays came from england, my grandfather swore to scots irish heritage.
i have found evidence that the name clay is shortened from macclay or macallay,which was a an irish pronunciation of the scottish clan mccauley. however, i cannot tie george to any of these either.
