Clay, Daniel of Maine or Minnesota

My ancestry research has dead-ended with Daniel Clay (born in Maine, 1817). He is the last and questionable level. His son: Cassius Marcellus Clay, born either 1860 or 1858 in Minnesota is a firm known family member. His son: Wallace Adair Clay claimed that Cassius' father's father was John Clay, the father of Henry Clay (famous statesman). I can find no documentation to support this. Does anyone have information on Clays in either Maine or Minnesota linked to John Clay, b. c 1742, Henrico Co., VA, father of Henry Clay?
