Thaney A. Clay was Jo Anna Rutherford Clay, wife of James Kye Clay Sr., my husband's great grandmother. She is buried at Chunky Cem. beside her grandchild Abia Quitman Clay. They both have hand-made tombstones.
In Kemper Co.census, 1870 Mary Watters Clay was living next to her son Stephen and his wife Marium Ann Elizabeth Hatcher. The Hatchers lived next to them.
James Polk Clay may have been James Knox Polk Clay but I can't find him listed that way anywhere. He definately married Ella Landers.
James Kye Clay was not the same person. He married Jo Anna Rutherford, daughter of Robert A. Rutherford and Winniford.
It would certainly be helpful if we could find Abia's will.
