Suggest your ancestor may have come from Amey Clay, who married William Green. There were three Clay siblings (at this generation) who married Greens.

Looks like this:
Charles Clay (1645) m Hannah Wilson in 1667 in Henrico County, VA
Children were (all born Henrico Co.):
John [b ca 1668 d 1723]
Thomas [b. ca 1670 d 1726 in Prince George co., Va] m ? may be Munns/Munny
Henry [b. 1672 d ca 1760] m Mary Mitchell *
Mary [b. ca 1675]
Elizabeth [b ca 1678]
Judith [b ca 1681]
Charles [b ca 1684 d ca 1765] m Sarah [Clements?]

*Children of Henry and Mary (Mitchell) Clay (all b between ca 1709 and 1721)
William Mitchell m/1 Martha [Lewis?] m/2 Agnes ___ many children
Henry m Lucy Green (parents Thos. and Eliz (Marston) Green)
Martha m Wm Bass
Amey b. ca. 1715 Henrico Co., Va; prob. d. Amelia Co., Va.; m/1, ca. 1731 William GREEN brother of Thos. and Eliz (Marston) Green and thus uncle to Lucy (above) and Martha (below) Green. She m/2, Benjamin WILLIAMSON, 7 June 1748, Amelia Co., Va.
Charles m Martha Green (parents Thos. and Eliz (Marston) Green)
Mary m Edward Watkins?
John m/1 Sarah? Watkins; m/3 niece Mary Bass

William and Amey (Clay) Green had the following children:
Thomas
Patty m William Williamson
Filmer
William m Obedience Green
John
Amey m Edward Mosely

I don't have anything further on this line, but you might look at June Shaputis page at

She can probably help you.

Pat
