I have John C(harles?) Clay, b. 1796, Kentucky, m. 15 May 1839, Opelousas, LA, Adelaide Coulon de Villier, bt. 28 Oct 1804 at age 8 mths., Opelousas Post, Province of Louisiana, d/o François Coulon de Villier and Françoise Langlois. John and Adelaide divorced 6 Dec 1851, St. Landry Parish, LA Judgement #5514. Their children: (1) Aimée, b. 19 Aug 1843, m. 15 Aug 1860 Louis Roy; (2) Charles, b. 2 Mar 1840, m. 27 Oct 1859 Thérèse Johnson; (3) Françoise, b. 14 May 1844, m. 29 Jan 1866 Trosimond Soileau. All children were born in St. Landry Parish, LA, and were married in St. Landry Parish, LA.
Family tradition states that John C. Clay fled to Texas on horseback after stabbing a individual with a penknife, and started a family there. He did return briefly ca. 1870. During the 1960's two Clay brothers from the Houston, TX area visited in south Louisiana looking for their "Clay cousins."

Who were John C(harles?) Clay's parents? I have been researching this line for years and would appreciate any help.
