I am looking for members of the Clay family which was removed to Indian Territory and contained a Clay who may have had the initials F.M. (or
he married a woman with those initials) and the wife at least was Indian. We have understood her to be Cherokee, but so far tracing on the rolls
has been difficult with no first names to be sure of. My great grandmother was Fanny Mary Clay, the daughter of Mrs. F.M.Clay and her
husband. There were several siblings, at least some of whom ended up in San Angelo after possibly being in Temple TX around 1890. The possibility that it is not Cherokee haunts us. Do you have any info that could link yours with mine? Do you have a tradition of which tribe?
Also see my post earlier today on the Clay Surname Forum.
