Emily/Emma b. abt. 1827 NC, d. aft. 1880 VA?. She appears in 1850, 1860 and 1880 Census records for Russell and Wise Counties, VA. Nothing further in the later census. 1850: Emily, 24, F, Seamstress, NC George, 4, M, Russell Co. Harmon, 2, M, Russell Co. 1860: Emily, 32, F, NC George, 13, M, VA Harmon, 11, M, VA Jackson, 9, M, VA Charles, 5, M, VA Elbert S., 1, M, VA In 1870, George is married and Harmon is working on a farm in Russell Co. Emily and the other children are not found. 1880: Emily, F, W, 52, Widow, NC, NC, NC Elbert, M, W, 20, S, Farmer, VA, NC, NC Do not know who Emily's spouse was, but speculate he was b. bet.1820-1825 in NC, d. bef. 1880 in NC?. Family stories say that we are from the other side meaning; we are not from the Henry Clay side, but from his brother Edward who d. abt. 1819 in Person Co., NC. Do know that Edwards son James m. Lucy Rogers in 1811 in Person Co. and later m. Phoebe Johnston in Caswell Co. In going through early census records for James Clay I'm not convinced that they are the same James Clay. James Clay who m. Phoebe in 1819 may be the son of Samuel Clay. Phoebe appears in the 1850 Cole Co., MO census with a son, Samuel. James havvving d. abt. 1847 NC?MO?. The reason I say this is that in the 1840 census for Russell Co., VA there is a Lucy Clay, HoH, age 40-50, 1 male 15-20 and 2 females 10-15. Lucy is again HOH in the 1850 census with Emily and family as shown above. This is my big mystery and Brick Wall. Any info, no matter how trivial would be greatly appreciated.
