Count me as one of those who does NOT believe that Phebe Belcher Clay was the daughter of Francis and Phebe Cabiness Belcher. I have excerpts of two deeds made in May 1818 in Franklin Co, Va in which Phebe Cabiness Belcher Swinney names 5 children. Phebe is not one of them. Her marriage to Francis lasted 10 years (1771 to his death in 1781). It is unlikely that there were more than 5 children.
I vote for Phebe Belcher Clay to be the daughter of the other couple. Haven't done any research there. Would love to know what documents show this.
My husband is decended through Phebe and Francis Belcher's daughter Prudence. I can't find a husband for her, although she must have married a cousin. Prudence had four children: Elias, Eveline, Polly and William Belcher. Any help on finding Prudence's husband would be appreciated.
