Clay Family Genealogy Forum

John F. Clay (born 1807/8) was as far back as I had gotten, partly because I lost him in multiple J.F.Clay/John Clay listings in earlier census records in Tennessee. It's sure frustrating when all you get is a pile of initials, isn't it?! We had thought that J.F.'s wife was a Watkins; now I''m seeing that Travis Carpenter has messages (from a year ago!) about the same family, with his lineage from the oldest daughter (I'm from child #5!) I am also now in contact with a cousin from child #3 (there were 6 in all). Our branch apparently was in Tennessee, and then later migrated to Texas, but some of J.F.'s other children are (or were) still in Tennessee. I don't have any family records that I remember off-hand showing Alabama. Last week I visited with J.F.'s 95-year old granddaughter, but her records don't tell us about J.F.'s wife. John F.'s daughters married into Carpenter, Harris, and Landreth families. Browsing this forum suggests to me that among us, we should be able to establish some lines of descent!!
