Do you havae any record of a John (C.) Clay in your files? Our John was in Opelousas, LA in 1839 when he married Adelaide Coulon DeVilliers (He would have been around 40 at this time and I suspect could have been married before.) Family stories say he was born in Virginia around 1796, arrived in Louisiana in the early to mid 1830's. He may have first stopped in Kentucky. He left Louisiana abruptly around 1846 and the family doesn't know what happened to him after that. Some think he may have returned to Kentucky and remarried. He returned briefly to Louisiana in 1870 so he was still alive then. He was very secretive about his past. Do you have a John (C.) Clay that COULD have gone to Louisiana during this time? Thanks for any help.
