Ed -- I usually monitor the Clawson board closely, and missed your August reply about Isaac Sturgis Clawson. I believe he was the son of Garret Jr., of a part of Pennsylvania that was claimed by Virginia for awhile, although if he was born after 1800 it might not explain a Virginia birth location.

Isaac Sturgis Clawson was the son of Garret Clawson (presumably Jr.) of Greene/Fayette Co PA and Kezia Sturgis. Garret Jr's Rev War pension application contains a Bible record that lists twelve children: Leah(b. April 3, 1791), John(b. April 8, 1793), Mary(b. March 25, 1795), Phineas(b. Aug 10, 1797), Lotow(b. July 11, 1799), Thomas(b. Aug 22, 1801), James(b. Sept 20, 1803), Isaac Sturgis(b. Nov 20, 1805), Garret(b. Jul 18, 1808, in Masontron in Greene Co according to an LDS ancestral file record), Kezia(b. Sept 12, 1810 and d. Jul 27, 1819), Abia(b. Jan 13, 1813 and d. Jul 15, 1819), and Josiah(b. Aug 29, 1815 and d. 16 months, not shown in 1819).

There has been much speculation about how this line ties in to the one you mentioned. This Garret Jr., presumably the son of Garret Sr. and Mary Clawson -- Garret Sr. having died ca 1777-81 in sw PA. Garret Sr. and Mary also had sons named Thomas, Josiah, John, and Peter.

I would love to know if you have any speculation about how this line fits with the New York one you mention.
