An interesting fact that could be an important clue: On May 25, 1825, Susanna Ifert purchased the W 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of Section 28, Township 21N (Richland), range 7W. This 80 acres was the connecting parcel between the 160 acre land patent (#2752) and the 160 acre land patent (#2636 & #2637) purchased by Thomas Clawson on April 15, 1825. There HAD to be a reason for this particular parcel to have remained "for sale" until Susanna Ifert purchased it. Garret Clawson purchased 180 acres (#3448 & #3449) on April 20, 1826: E1/2, NW1/4 of Section 19, Twp 21, R7W and W1/2, SW1/4 of Section 19, Twp 21, R7W. Peter Clawson and Abraham Ifert, jointly, purchased on November 2, 1831 80 acres: E1/4, NW1/4, Section 26, T21, R7W You can find the Township Plat Map at: http://indiamond6.ulib.iupui.edu/cdm4/document.php?CISOROOT=/IndianaPlat&CISOPTR=1717&REC=2 So, Peter and Garret of Richland Township, Fountain County, Indiana had some type of connection to Thomas Clawson. We know that Peter Clawson married Sarah Ifert in september of 1824 in Montomery County, Ohio (and Susanna is her mother and Abraham is her brother). Now, considering the census for 1830 Fountain County, Richland Township... There is a: Abraham, Josiah, & Thomas Clawson (together) Sophia Clawson & Garret Clawson (together) Thomas Clawson (Separated by a Childers) Timothy Clawson (Alone) Peter Clawson (Alone) No Ifert is listed as Head of Household Could Peter (married to Sarah Ifert) be the son of Thomas and Sophia Covalt Clawson??? In section 26, John Dove purchases 40 acres in 1834 (N1/2 of the E1/2 of the NE 1/4). Elizabeth Dove marries Thomas Clawson in Fountain County June 23, 1831...Johnathan C. Dove marries Sophia Clawson May 13, 1835...and Johnathan C. Dove was the son of John Dove and Lucy Covalt Dove. My hesitation to link Peter and Sarah Ifert Clawson to Thomas and Sophia Covalt Clawson is the fact that there is no known child of Peter and Sarah's that is named either Thomas or Sophia. Then again, Peter and Sarah didn't necessarily follow "tradition" when naming their children, either (IE: Vine, Fidellia, Robert, George). They didn't use Sarah's father or mother's names either (IE: Jeremias and Susanna). One name to note though is Vine Clawson, could have been named after Vienna (daughter of Thomas and Sophia). Lewis could have been named after Lois, also (daughter of Thomas and Sophia). Here is another possibility. Peter and Sarah's son George had a son named Peter Pennington Clawson. Sophia Covalt's mothers maiden name was Pendleton. The middle name of Peter (married to Sarah Ifert) has never been known. Of Thomas and Sophia's children: Abraham born 1795 Mary born 1797 Lois born 1798 Josiah born 1799 Thomas Jr. born 1800 Rachel born 1803 Garret born 1804 Timothy born 1806 Vienna born 1808 Ephraim born 1810 Cynthia born 1812 Sophia born 1814 there is no more than 2 years between each child, other than between Thomas Jr. and Rachel. Peter (married to Sarah) was born in 1801...he could fit into this family. Notify Administrator about this message?
