Candy from what i have saw i believe that Josiah was married twice, About the different 1880 census info i have found that there is alot of naming different places of birth , but one thing I have just found out by going thru early history of Ohio that even though the Clawsons moved there in the 1788-91 lot of times they abandoned there settlements due to Indian trouble & lack of food and other frontier hardships, and went elswhere for a while,(winters mostly i believe) then returned, I know that in the history of Hamilton Co. Ohio that Covalts station was abandoned in the winter of 1791. It seems to me they mite have moved around some until things settled down. In my line John b-1764 His son John Jr's son states that john Jr was born in NJ, I know Louisa his mother was born in NJ. John Jr's brother Josiah who married a Woodward and lived in Henry Co. Ind. his son stated Josiah was born in Tenn. So it seems to me some of the early settlers moved around while thing were getting settled down. I also found the same thing in Garret Jr. B-1759 Family his son who was still alive in Green Co. Wis. in 1880 stated that his father Garret Jr. was born in NJ. I also think that we are from a line of William born in 1657, the more i look the more things i find that point to NJ. the Cornelius Clawson B-1726 who lived close to where or Clawsons came from in PA, and was married to Martha Smalley, and is thought possibly Garrets brother, In early research some have stated that he came from Holland, but i Have found that is not the case, The Cornelius that was born in 1722-26 was the son of Cornelius and Mary Breeze of NJ. and that He married Elizabeth Drake, The Cornelius that Married Martha Smalley was his son b-1744 and was married to Martha in Piscataway NJ. Andrew his son is buried the Clawson Cem. in Butler Co.Ohio Along with some drakes, and i have also saw were some of the Smalleys also came to Ohio. I know for sure that at Least one of Marthas Brothers maybe two were in the same Company during the Revolution along with Drakes and Brant Benjamin, and a M Barnet Clawson, also found a will from 1750 with the Smalleys, and Brant, William,Clary, and William (son of brant)Clawson, and at the bottom lists a debt owed to Cornelius Clawson. My whole point of all this is that Cornelius Clawson and Martha Smalleys kids were all around Fayette & Washington Co. PA and around 1800 moved to Butler Co Ohio and live alongside our Clawsons so it makes me thing that this could count for some of the other mixups we are more that likely related to them and there may have been Many more cousins that came to Ohio than that was Known. Take for example the Garret that married Delila Sawyer, I have him in my tree as being the son of Peter Sr. but, in all the census's it does seem that he was born in PA. in 1795, our clawsons were in Ohio by then. Every one connects him to our family because of the move to Fountain Co. Ind. but what if he was a cousin from the other Clawsons. they never came to Ohio until 1800 and went to butler Co. the Co. where Garret and Delila were Married. and to mix things up even more there was a John Clawson and a Mary who never left PA. stayed in Washington Co. and was still there in 1820, so it makes me believe the Ohio and Indiana Clawsons could be mixed up more than anyone ever thought. But however mixed up they are most every thing about it points to NJ. I still have never found anything on Mary Wheatly. let me know what you think.
