Doris Mae Clausen Schmidt was born on March 16, 1919 in Belfast Township, Murray County, MN to Julius Jense & Magdalena Henricksen Clausen. She was baptized on December 6, 1925 at the First Lutheran Church in Dundee and later confirmed at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. She received her education from District #32 and # 34 in Murray County.
On September 28, 1938, Doris was united in marriage to Ludwig Ernest Schmidt at the Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls, SD. This marriage was blessed with seven children, Barbara, Jerome, Robert, Leola, Arlen, Peter, and Randy. After marriage, Doris and Ludwig lived near Heron Lake and Dundee, MN. Doris worked for Campbell Soup Company and was a homemaker. Ludwig passed away on June 30, 1978. After Ludwig passed away, Doris continued living at their home on the farm until moving in to Heron Lake. In 2002, she moved to the Good Samaritan Society campus where she remained a resident until passing away on Thursday morning, October 22, 2009 at the age of 90.
Doris was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Dundee where she was active in the ALCW. She enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, playing the organ, card games, and most of all loved spending time with her family.
Doris is survived by six children, Barbara Larson of Windom, Jerome Schmidt of Worthington, Robert Schmidt and his wife, Roxy, of Heron Lake, Leola Kalanquin of Welch, Peter Schmidt and his wife, Cindy, of Arboles, CO, and Randy Schmidt and Connie of Carlton; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Marsh of Worthington; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Magdalena; husband, Ludwig; one son, Arlen; one granddaughter, Debra Larson; one grandson, Scott Larson; one son-in-law, Max L. Larson; five brothers, Henry, Chris, Julius, Jack, and Otto; four sisters, Lora, Anna, Catherina, and Margaret.
