I wasn't aware that CLAUGHTON and CLAYTON were the same surname. I always felt they were pronounced differently, especially since I have also seen CLAUGHTON spelled as CLOUGHTON. How did you come to this conclusion that CLAYTON related to this surname?

I have frequently come across the CRALLE or CRAWLEY surname ... but since I had no connection, I did not pay much attention.

One entry in my file matches both SURNAMES:
CLAUGHTON, Mary       - 1786 Marriage, VA, p119 to Samuel Crawley or Cralle (b Dec 22 1761, d Apr 2 1827), marr Sep 19 1786, dau of Pemberton Claughton -- from Virginia Genealogies, The Ball Family

Did you keep the George CLAUGHTON information you mentioned? If so, I would like to get a copy to help me narrow my search.

Regards, Kathy Scott
