JOHN (Clasby) GILLESPIE, a descendant of William Clasby and Mary (#1 listed below) has joined our Gillespie DNA Project. 1. WILLIAM CLASBY b. 1729, Caroline Co. He married Mary William died October 1820 on the Tye River in Amherst Co., VA. His will was filed 23 October 1820.
1A. Nancy Clasby, born 1770; married 25 September 1799 to John Spencer.
1B. Thomas Clasby, married (1) Martha Bourn and (2) 22 December 1800 to Elizabeth
       Bourn, the daughter of Henry        Bourn
1C. Elizabeth Clasby, born 1790; married 22 December 1804 to Dabney Bryant. In 1850        Dabney was administrator of his father-in- law, William Clasby’s estate.
1D. Dandridge Clasby, no marriage record found
1E. Mary “Molly or Polly“ Clasby, married 21 March 1811 to William Mantiply

1B. THOMAS CLASBY was born ca 1770-80, the son of William and Mary Clasby. He married 1795 in Amherst Co., VA to Martha Bourne. Another marriage is shown on 22 December 1800 to Elizabeth Bourn. the daughter of Henry Bourn. .

Eleanor Bryant’s parents were unknown. In the 1850 census, . William, Jr., was 54 years old and Eleanor was 44.

1B1C. ROBERT ALEXANDER CLASBY GILLISPIE was born about 1838 in Nelson Co., VA, the son of William Clasby and Eleanor “Ellen” Bryant Claspy. He married 25 June 1867 in Amherst Co. , VA to Mildred “Millie” Lockard. She was born in Amherst Co., VA, the daughter of Roderick and Martha Lockard. Robert died between 1900 and 1903, probably at Lynchburg. The name Clasby appeared on all the old records. The first time the name was spelled Gillispie (in over 100 years) was in 1867 when Robert married.

1B1C5. WILLIAM ALEXANDER GILLISPIE was born in.1882, the son of Robert Gillispie and Mildred Caroline Lockard. He married Sallie. He died ca 1930 at age 48 in the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA, of injuries received in the U.S.Army while serving in W.W. I.

1B1C5A. William Thomas “Bill” Gillespie was born 8 April 1910 at Eagle’s Aire, near Lynchburg, Bedford Co., VA; m. probably at Bedford City to Loma Arlene Giliam.
