Catherine CLARK is found in the 1880 Harlan CO KY census listed as a 60 year old widow--With her are Polly 40 dau, Elizabeth 18 dau,
James 24 son, Mary 11 grdau and Ann 7 grdau.
This is the way they appear in the census and makes you wonder why Elizabeth is listed before James.

The research I was given has Catherine (Kate) listed as born ca 1817. Oral tradition gives her as the mother of another daughter Elender (known as EL). This El is not the Elender that married Richard Morris and later Ben Franklin CLark.

The two grandaughters listed in this census with Catherine are the daughters of my gggrandmother El Clark. El was said to have have several children and no known marriage to anyone.

El is in this same 1880 cenus: Elinds Clark,
(female) widowed and 55 years old. She was about 35 years old-not 55. She has living in the house with her Benjamin 18 son, Minty 16 dau, Martha 14 dau, Susan 12 dau, Louisa 3 dau and Jane 1 dau.

From notes I have Elender 1st appears as the 15 year old servant girl in the household of James C Bailey in the 1860 Census of Harlan Co. I do not have that census.

If anyone could find either of these women in other census records of Lee Co VA or Harlan Co KY I would appreciate having that information.

Thanks for your reply.
