I have just traced Clarksons to Meade Co, KY which is southwest of Louiville and in a southwest line from Cincy. However, the prior generation was from Campbell Co. VA. My husband's ancestors were Dewitt Clinton Clarkson born in Meade Co in 1836 and Thomas Jones Clarkson who married Margaret Weber in Campbell Co Va.in 1819. Don't know if this will help you.
