My great/great grandmother was Mary Lucinda Clarkson - b 1804 married Dr. Rueben Meredith. Her parents were William Clarkson and Mildred Pickett - Fauquier County, Virginia.
Wm's parents were Henry Clarkson and Dorcus Turner. They had 3 children - William, Martha Ann ( who married Major Samuel Ashby) and Henry who married a Ann - 1800.
Wm's father Henry who is the first of the Clarkson Family to be authenticated by record in Virginia. I have more that I have just uncoverd but I do not have any James Clarkson's listed as of yet. Let me know if any of this helps.
